Movies and TV Shows with Great Laundromat Scenes

Though laundromats don’t make the best set for a TV show or movie, there are a number of great scenes set in front of washers and dryers on both the silver screen and the big screen. We thought it would fun to take a look at some of the most iconic scenes in this setting to date. Here’s a look:

  • Friends (Season 1, Episode 5): Back in the early days of the hit sitcom, when Ross was crushing on Rachel, one of the episodes in their story arc focused on Ross teaching Rachel how to properly do laundry. The episode was good for some hilarious hijinks with another laundromat customer and even ended with the pair sharing an impromptu kiss.
  • Fight Club: The first rule of fight club is not to talk about fight club… but I think we’re good to mention the laundromat scene. You know, the one where Helena Bonham Carter’s character steals someone’s laundry and sells it off?
  • The Blind Side: It’s always nice when someone doesn’t use all of their dryer time at the laundromat, as was the case for Mike in this 2009 movie when he was able to dry a shirt he hand washed.
  • 40 Days and 40 Nights: In this quirky comedy, Josh Hartnett’s character actually met – and then reunited – with a love interest in a laundromat.
  • Catch Me If You Can: This hit Steven Spielberg-directed film pitted master criminal Frank Abagnale (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) against an FBI agent played by Tom Hanks. Albeit brief, there’s a funny laundromat scene showing an aggravated Hanks sandwiched between two women in the laundromat after another failed attempt at catching Abagnale.

Did we miss any laundromat scenes? Which one of the above is your favorite?
