Laundry in a Pandemic: Tips to Stay Safe

Though many businesses shut their doors and only offered curbside service during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, things have obviously changed to the point where this is no longer necessary – even in places where there’s an uptick of cases. Because of how much we now know about the virus that causes COVID-19, it’s more of a matter of establishing the necessary preventative measures to minimize the potential for spread – and these are the precautions that laundromats have established as well.

So what can you do to ensure that you stay safe when visiting the laundromat to do your laundry? Here’s a look at some of the ways you can stay safe while taking care of your laundry:

Laundry in a Pandemic: Tips to Stay Safe

  • Follow posted safety guidelines: Local businesses establish safety protocol for a reason, and our chain of New Jersey laundromats is no exception. Make sure that you follow the posted safety guidelines.
  • Wear a mask and distance: These are two tried and true measures for staying safe amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Mask wearing can help prevent the spread of airborne droplets and distancing at least 6 feet from others can add an additional means of protection. For enhanced protection, which may be especially helpful in crowded places, wear a medical-grade mask, such as a surgical mask or KN95.
  • While not required, you may elect to set the wash or dry cycle on your clothes and then wait in the car for the cycle to finish. This can help you minimize contact with others, while still ensuring that your laundry is completed. You might also skip folding your dried clothes at the laundromat and instead take them home to fold if you choose to do so.
  • Wash your hands regularly: It’s always best practice to wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially after being in common areas. Experts say to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds for best results.
  • If you feel sick, stay home: If you’re not feeling well, be sure to stay home so you don’t come into contact with others. If your symptoms are indicative of COVID-19, make sure to get tested to prevent spreading the virus to others.
