How to Take a Great “Laundrogram”

You wouldn’t think that a laundromat and a viral-worthy Instagram picture would go hand-in-hand, but more and more social media personalities are heading there to take their latest outfit pictures to impress their followers.

Yes, it’s a bit odd, but laundromats actually make for a pretty cool and unique backdrop. And models posing for photos at laundromats aren’t anything new — they’ve been doing it for fashion magazines dating all the way back to 1995. In fact, models ranging from Kate Moss to Gemma Ward have posed for professional pics at the laundromat. One of the reasons it’s fun to take pics in a laundromat is because it’s typically not a place where people go dressed in their Sunday’s best. But we don’t think “Laundrograms” should be shared by just models and celebrities. There’s no reason why you can’t take and share your own. Here’s a look at some tips to do it:

  • Strike a pose: Don’t just take a picture standing in a laundromat. Make sure there’s some sort of unique action or you’re in a unique pose. Sit on a washer or dryer, stand next to a front-loading washer in action, slyly carry a laundry basket down an aisle. You get the picture (pun intended) — do something to make your snap pop. Have some fun with this!
  • Use filters: Filters can really add to your laundrogram, especially if you’re in a unique outfit. If you’re in old-fashioned wear, give it a black and white filter. If you’re wearing spring colors, use a bright filter.
  • Switch it up: Don’t just take one pose in one outfit, take a whole gallery of pictures in various outfits. Then post to your Instagram account as a photo gallery and not just a one-off picture. It can be a nice way to showcase all of the cool shots the laundromat has to offer.

So, what do you think? Is a laundrogram something that you can pull off? Give it a try! Be creative! And most importantly, have fun while you’re doing it!
