How to Get Meat Greases Out of Your Clothes

You’re cooking dinner for the family and turkey grease splatters all over your new sweater. You’re removing bacon from the griddle and the grease splatters all over your jeans. You’re flipping burgers on the grill and grease from the meat patty completely misses your barbecue apron and gets all over your favorite summer t-shirt.

Don’t fret – your grease-stained clothes aren’t doomed. In fact, there are a few key things you can do to salvage your clothing. In this post, we’ll go step-by-step on how to remove those stubborn grease stains – no matter whether they’re fresh or have dried.

How to Remove Meat Greases from Your Clothes

  1. Try to prevent it from setting: There are a few things you can do to prevent a grease stain from setting. Grab some salt or artificial sweetener and put it on the stain. These should absorb some of the stain. You can also apply some dish soap to it and work it into the stain. Wipe away salt or artificial sweetener after a few minutes. Rinse dish soap with warm water after rubbing it into the fabric. The faster you can perform this step, the better.
  2. Pre-treat the stain before laundering: Before you put the article of clothing through a wash cycle, pre-treat the stain by rubbing liquid laundry detergent on it or a special pre-treatment product that’s purpose-built to cut through grease stains.
  3. Wash it: After you’ve pre-treated the stain, toss it into the washing machine. Make sure you wash on a warm or hot water setting.
  4. Inspect: After the wash cycle has concluded, check the stain. If it’s still there, repeat Step 2 and Step 3 until it’s eliminated. Don’t ever machine dry a garment that is stained, as the heat will cause it to fully set into the fabric. If the stain appears to have been removed, hang dry it and then inspect it again after it has finished drying.

Stained clothes are never any fun, but as you can see – removing stubborn stains from meat greases is possible. You just need the right products and know-how.
